REDACTO

Terms of service

Last updated 2026-10-23

These terms say what you can expect from Redacto and what we ask of you. They are written to be read once, not skimmed.

What Redacto is

A browser-based tool for removing sensitive information from a PDF. It renders a document, finds patterns that look like personal data, lets you mark what should go, and writes a copy with the marked characters removed from the content stream rather than covered over.

What you buy

The Single tier is $3 once, and it is bought on Stripe's own page. What you get is a token that opens one file with no page limit and all five OCR languages, and that is spent when you export that file.

  • The card details are entered on Stripe's page and go to Stripe. We never receive them.
  • The token is kept in your browser's own storage, not on an account. If you clear your browser's data before exporting, it is gone, and we cannot give it back — write to us and we will replace it.
  • The receipt comes from Stripe to the address you type at checkout. We keep that address only so that we can find your purchase if you write to us about it.
  • A token buys one file. There is no subscription, no renewal and no automatic second charge.
  • The features listed as planned on the pricing page — custom export branding and the per-file size cap — are not part of what a token buys yet, and the pricing page says so.

Refunds

Write to us and we will refund a Single token that did not work. It costs $3 and covers one file, so there is little to argue about: if you bought it and it did not do what the pricing page says, we refund it. The refund is carried out in Stripe's dashboard and reaches your card in the same few days the charge took.

  • A token that has already been spent on an export is not refundable: that export is the thing you bought.

What we ask of you

You keep the rights to the documents you open, and you are responsible for what you redact and what you publish.

  • Check the result. The scan finds patterns that look like personal data; it does not know what your document means, and it will miss things and occasionally flag something that is not. A redaction is only as good as the review that follows it.
  • Do not use the service to break the law, and do not use it to process documents you have no right to process.
  • Do not attempt to disrupt the service, or to use it to attack anything.

No warranty

The service is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is a tool, not advice: whether a redaction satisfies a regulator, a court or the other party to a contract is a question of law and of your circumstances, and not one this software can answer.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running. We do not promise a particular level of availability, and we may change or withdraw features.

What we are not responsible for

The documents you open, and anything you do or fail to do with the copies you make of them, are yours. We never receive your documents, so we cannot recover one for you, and we cannot be responsible for its contents.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with it, and this page is the notice. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the version published here.
